Road fall just 8 runs short against Badgers as four-match unbeaten run ends at Wandsworth Park

Close ... The Road lose to the Badgers at Wandsworth Park

BRAVE King’s Road fell just 8 agonising runs short in a tight Twenty20 against the Battersea Badgers to end their unbeaten run last night.

The Orange Caps were in confident mood having won four in a row going into the second South London Ashes clash of the season.

But in a dramatic end to the match, Tom Barnes and Matt Glover narrowly failed to steal the show for The Road.

The Badgers had set an imposing 151 to win at Putney’s Wandsworth Park after taking advantage of a slow pitch.

And as the evening light faded, the in-form pair of Tom and skipper Giles Fagan set about the total.

Having stuck in there against some accurate bowling from Blake, Mackerell and Foord, The Road were left needing 29 to win from the final over.

It was just too much as Tom – having scored yet another fifty – and big-hitting Matt G plundered 22.

The Road – finishing on 143 for 2 – simply ran out of overs.

KRCSC now head to Clapton for a 40 over match against LEDs XI before taking on the Badgers again in the final South London Ashes game of the season, the two-day Super Test.

SCORECARD to follow.
