We’re on Cricinfo before Tooting Common clash against the Thesps

KING’S Road have scored another first for a South London club – getting a mention on the world’s top cricket site.

ESPN-owned site Cricinfo – known as the game’s online Bible – is read by around ten million cricket fans every month and is among the top five sport websites on the web.

But today it was all about The Road after club Aussie John Gledhill posted a message just hours before the team take on Thespian Thunderers in the hope of drumming up interest in the clash.

Dr John – as John is known because of his studious-looking glasses (err, and PhD) – said: “Everyone is talking about New Zealand versus Sri Lanka.

“But I’ve not heard a word about tonight’s big Twenty20 clash between South London’s two (self-proclaimed) “best rubbish cricket teams” – the King’s Road Cricket and Social Club and the Thespian Thunderers.

“We are going to set Tooting Common alight (note to the Met Police – that is not a threat).”

King’s Road kick-off the match at 6.15pm and will be bidding to pick up their first win of the season. In May the sides met with the Thespians coming off winners by seven wickets.

The line-up is expected to be Dr John, Simon Biffen, Tony Swann, Chris Beckett, James Pritchard, Dan Howard, Raju Mazumder, Matt Cocken, Andy Saker, Leon Watson and Jamie Smith.

Oh Lord, hallowed be thy name. May our feet be swift; our bats mighty and our balls plentiful. May we carve up the crease, cradle the catches and smash the seamers. Help us unite against the spin and keep the Kings Road banter flowing. Ahem ๐Ÿ˜‰
