King’s Road battered on Battersea Park

SORRY King’s Road were thrashed again after failing to take a string of chances against the London Itinerants.

The Orange Caps were their own worst enemy in the field putting down catch after catch as the oppo racked up a staggering 241 all out off exactly 40 overs.

Two Itinerants – Harvey Bowman and Michael Behl – passed fifty having escaped dismissal a number of times before the innings was brought to an end on the very last ball.

Yet there was no disguising that while The Road were profilgate, the Itinerants were clinical and as chances were going down they brutally dispatched the ball to all areas.

Kevin Pittaway – taking charge for the first time in the absence of regular skip Giles Fagan – did manage to pick up 4 for 51 off 8.

And both Richard Peralta and Leon Watson got three, with Leon doubling his season’s tally so far.

But The Road failed to keep the score down and ultimately paid the price as they were left with a mountain to climb.

Keeper Tom Barnes, who got 23 to add to his two catches and a stumping, and Mark Isham, 11, put on a steady first wicket stand against the Itinerants’ opening pair of Michael Behl and Ravi Ogale.

But after that The Road collapsed with only Leon Watson, capping a fine all-round display, showing any resistance.

Leon hit six boundaries on the dry Battersea Park pitch until a mix-up at the end with last man James Couldrey left him stranded on 44 not out.

In truth, the match was over long before The Road’s reply ended on 134 though and for most of it they were only playing for pride.

First change bowler David Wilson was the Itinerants’ star – ripping out the home team’s top four to bag an incredible 6 for 8 off 8.

His incredible figures were the best ever against King’s Road.

For the boys from Battersea, it’s back to the drawing board after they were out-batted, out-bowled and out-fielded by a superior Itinerants side who ran out winners by a staggering 107 runs.

King’s Road gave a debut to Chris MacNichol and Michael Rossi, the only bowler not to leak runs, played his second game.

Raju Mazumder, Jamie Keating- who provided one of the few highlights in the field with a stunning catch off Leon – and James Pritchard and made up the rest of the team.
