He’s the best – ‘100 per cent!’ India’s Number 1 Shailesh Joshi scoops The Road’s Player of the Year gong

SUPER Shailesh Joshi has proved he’s not just India’s Number 1 – he’s The Road’s Number 1 after scooping the top prize at this year’s King’s Road end of season awards bash.

The big-hitting allrounder won the coveted Player of the Year award following an incredible season in which he inspired us to win our first London Premier League title.

Shailesh – whose catchphrase is, “Yes, 100 per cent” – hit 276 runs at an average of 30 and took 18 wickets at 11 before he bowed out for a year because he’s returning to India.

After picking up his gong at The Exhibit in Balham, Shailesh said he won’t be around for 2014 but will definitely return to play with King’s Road in 2015.

Among the other winners were wickie Dan Sherman, newboy Lomas Persad and club chairman Mark Isham.

Dan and Lomas shared the Best Performance gong for their game-changing stand in the Super Test in August when they put on a club record 275.

Lomas was also named Best Batsman in his first season after hitting a majestic 119 in that stand and also picked up Best Newcomer.

Sherm, who hit a career- best 87, won Most Improved after for his keeping and scoring a total of 286 runs at an average of 20 throughout the season.

Matt Small was named Best Bowler after a year of incredible consistency with the ball that reaped 23 wickets at an average of 16, which included a stunning ย 5 for 4 against Four Lions CC.

The Best Fielder was Mark Isham who took three catches in the last game of the season and had been nominated for a string of awards including Best Bowler following his superb end to the season with the ball which yielded 12 wickets.

The Champagne Moment was a ย two-way tie. It was awarded to the side that memorably beat Cairns Fudge to lift the LPL title in August, and was the certificate was picked up by Michael Rossi who hit the winning runs, and the team that secured a tie on tour on the last ball of a match on tour on the Isle of Wight in July.

There was little doubt who’d win Tantrum of the Year with Kevin Pittaway picking up his award for his spat at the umpire in our final league game.

A new award of Badger of the Year went to Pete Jinks for helping fire up Sherm in the Super Test.

And finally the big one, the prestigious Teaslady of the Year gong, went to Dan Howard for consistently serving up a series of culinary delights during the course of the season.
