He came, he saw, he conquered: Raju puts Centurions to the sword

RAJU Mazumder hit a career best 32 and Adam Majeed blasted out three in four balls as King’s Road cruised to their first LPL win against Centurions CC.

In the first fixture of a weekend double-header, the Orange Caps – captained for the first time by Leon Watson – took a maximum nine points on their second competitive outing.

Centurions won the toss and decided to bat on a decent-looking Haydon’s Road pitch and started well with openers Hughes and Ward looking solid in the opening overs.

But after the breakthrough by Matt Glover and a perfect yorker to remove number three Moore, The Road’s bowlers tore into the Centurions’ line-up.

Adam overcame a erratic start to snatch three in four balls, all bowled.

Captain Leon Watson also grabbed his landmark 50th wicket for the club and Jamie Keating added to his tally before newboy Simon Tomlinson rounded off the inning with the final wicket on his fourth ball.

Adam recorded figures of 4 for 15 off 3, while Matt G bagged 2 for 15 off 5.

In reply, The Road were left with the modest target of 119 in 35 overs at just over three an over.

Having lost wickie and opener Chris MacNicol with just 4 on the board, Raju and Leon dug in knowing they had all the time in the world.

The pair put on 44 before Leon departed for 10, having passed another landmark to become the third batsman to pass 800 runs.

David Hughes joined Raju at the crease and then opener started opening up hitting nine off one memorable over before eventually falling to a shooter for 32.

By then the score was on 69 and the result looked well beyond doubt, despite the loss of Guru Prasad the following ball.

Matt G hit one huge six before being spectacularly caught out by one of his own on 17 – Adam filling in for the opposition at square leg.

Debutant Simon faced eight balls before he was bowled and then Jamie finally killed off the match by thwacking five fours to drag The Road over the line.

Keats finished unbeaten on 24 off 21 balls with Dave not out on 9.

It was an encouragingly comfortable win for The Road that followed last week’s limp Twenty20 loss to Corridor CC and a win that gets their LPL season back up and running following a first competitive match loss against the same opposition.
