Gilo challenges Matt in bid to lead King's Road

CLUB chairman Giles Fagan will take on Matt Cocken for the role of The Road’s on-field captain this year.

Gilo is hoping to become The Road’s third full-time skipper – if he polls enough club member votes to beat Matt.

The pair were the only candidates to come forward and offer themselves up for election.

Voting is open to all members registered in 2010. Fixtures secretary Raju Mazumder will conduct the count and will let members know what the process is.

Campaigning for the election will now kick off with Matt hoping to build on his first year in charge and Giles offering his experience to the side.

An announcement on the winner will be made at the club AGM scheduled for February 12.

Tinkerman Raju was The Road’s first skip taking charge of 27 games over two years.

Raju’s record as captain was eight wins, 18 loses and one draw before he lost last year’s election to the big all-rounder Matt.

Founding member Matt, who is third on the all-time appearances record with 39 outings for the club, has been at the helm for a total of 18 games.

He has recorded two wins.

Challenger Giles has played 20 matches for the Orange Caps and hit six fifties.

He would be expected to vacate his role as chairman if he wins.
