Cricket mag honours Leon for best performance after booze-fuelled tour knock

EVER-PRESENT all-rounder Leon Watson has won All Out Cricket’s Performance of the Month award for his booze-fuelled – but boring – 25 on tour.

The hungover opener was honoured by bat-maker Gunn & Moore for his battling knock played out over 33 overs against Devon side Stoke Fleming.

King’s Road lost the 35-over match against Giles Fagan’s old team by three wickets – but the defeat would have been much worse had Leon not stuck around.

Leon said: “Without this innings we would undoubtedly have been bowled out for about 40. Normally the rest of the team would have been jeering from the sidelines, yelling “get on with it” etc etc. This time they didn’t.

“Now, of course, everyone takes the mickey, accusing me of being the slowest batsmen ever. But at that time when we were as hungover as we’ll ever be it was the closest thing to an epic Dunkirk-style refusal to surrender our club has ever seen.”

He’s featured in this month’s issue – available at all good newsagents.
