WELCOME to the website of south London’s finest social cricket team, the King’s Road Cricket and Social Club.
We are a friendly team based around Battersea, Balham, Brixton, Tooting, Wimbledon, Richmond, Wandsworth, Clapham and Streatham.
Throughout the summer we organise cricket games, mainly 40-over matches at the weekend – and our aim is always to have a good laugh.
The team also plays occasional Twenty20s, evening matches and the odd timed game.
And of course we go on tour every year. We’ve been to Swansea, Devon, Yorkshire and the Isle of Wight twice (but never again, no way am I going back there…). This year we’re going to Somerset.
But, do get intimidated by us! We may sound like a fine-tuned cricket machine made up of super-talented young prodigies just waiting for that Ashes call-up, but I assure you we are not.
We have fat players, old players, puny players, stupid players and people who are just rubbish.
Ability in the club is best described as “varied” and our emphasis is very much on enthusiasm and having a good time rather than skill. Yes, we pride ourselves in being a weak cricket team*.
Other clubs say that but we really mean it.
This year we appointed an honorary president, the south London-based cricket fan and stand-up comedian Andy Zaltzman.
So if you fancy a knock for or against us, don’t hesitate to get in contact.
In the meantime, read this: our nine reasons we’re the best cricket club in London.
You’ll be guaranteed a warm welcome and we hope to see you soon. Maybe you’ll find us on Battersea Park.
* Note, although not as weak or rubbish as the Battersea Badgers or the London Itinerants.
The King’s Road Cricket and Social Club is an affiliated Friend of Surrey CCC.
For the 2012 season we are proud to be sponsored by Walworth-based cricket kit specialist It’s Just Cricket.
