‘Please can I play for you?’: Alastair Cook is the latest star to don our famous cap

THIS is the moment a player from the best team in the world met a player from the best team in the UNIVERSE.

England star Alastair Cook looked starstruck when he ran into The Road’s Richard Peralta on tour in Sri Lanka.

According to witnesses, Cook, who helped England battle back to win the second Test and secure a series draw, had been stalking Rich in Colombo to get the chance of wearing the famous King’s Road orange cap.

And, looking lithe, beardy and the picture of a fit fast bowler, Rich obliged by giving Cook the honour of letting him don our headgear while, reports said, the opener hinted at the prospect of turning out for us.

Cook follows in the footsteps of his captain Andrew Strauss in declaring his love for The Road.

Other cricketers who have donned the cap include West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and Bangadesh spinner Shakib Al Hasan.

Following the meeting, Rich gave his assessment of Cook’s chances of getting in The Road’s first XI: “Decent average, we could probably have him at number three or four.”
